Challenge
The homeowner was experiencing significant damage within the crawlspace that compromised the home’s insulation and HVAC efficiency. Large sections of fiberglass insulation had become detached and displaced, while portions of the insulated ductwork had been torn open, leaving the duct system exposed. Loose insulation and debris were scattered throughout the crawlspace, creating an unclean environment and reducing the effectiveness of the home’s thermal envelope.
These conditions likely contributed to energy loss, inconsistent indoor temperatures, higher heating and cooling costs, and concerns about overall air quality. In addition, the extent of the damage raised concerns about potential underlying issues, such as moisture intrusion or animal activity, requiring a thorough inspection before repairs could begin.
This presented the homeowner with the challenge of restoring the crawlspace to a clean, energy-efficient, and properly insulated condition while identifying and addressing the root cause of the damage.
This version is careful not to attribute the damage to a specific cause unless you have evidence. If you know the damage was caused by rodents, raccoons, or another confirmed issue, I can tailor the challenge section accordingly.

Solution
After completing a thorough inspection, our Energy Consultant, Monte Riddle, identified the necessary steps to restore the home’s crawlspace and improve its overall performance. He recommended removing the damaged and ineffective insulation and replacing it with new, high-quality insulation to improve energy efficiency, indoor comfort, and the home’s thermal protection.
During the inspection, Monte also discovered that sections of the floor system were lacking adequate support, contributing to sagging floors. To address this issue, he recommended installing SmartJacks to provide permanent structural support, stabilize the floor system, and help prevent further settling over time.
By combining new insulation with structural reinforcement, the recommended solution addresses both the home’s energy performance and structural integrity, creating a cleaner, healthier, and more stable crawlspace for the homeowner..
